Harden a little too Cocky?
The Rockets have made some interesting moves this off season. Safe to say that they haven’t gotten worse but they certainly haven’t improved either. Notably adding Trevor Ariza, and Alonzo Gee to their roster doesn’t exactly make a Rockets fans shout that they are going to win the West next year. They lost two key players. Jeremy Lin to the Lakers and Chandler Parsons to the rival Dallas Mavericks. Parsons the third option for the Rockets averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4 assists to help Houston win 54 games last season, not too shabby right? Well not according to Harden who stated “Dwight and he are the cornerstones of the Rockets. The rest of the guys are role players.” I’m not sure what to make of that comment but you can look at it two ways. 1. Harden is correct he and Dwight are the cornerstone pieces of the Rockets so you can look at the statement as a literal fact. Or 2 Harden is stirring up the pot and may be a little bitter. The reason I say that is because nowhere in his comment did he wish Parsons well.
For someone who contributed to make the team a playoff contender in a highly competitive western conference Harden made a pretty cocky statement. No matter how you slice it losing Parsons was a huge loss for the Rockets but they did gain Ariza who is not too bad of a player himself. I just want to leave you guys with this Parsons averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4 assist in his third year. Meanwhile Harden averaged 16.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in OKC as the third option. Has Harden forgot where he came from? What if after he departed from OKC Durant issued a statement saying that Harden was nothing more than a role player and that he and Westbrook were the most important players on the team? Even though that statement may have been true OKC still hasn’t been back to the finals since they lost their third option in Harden. I think Harden owes Parsons some respect. It will be great watching these two teams go at it next season. Parsons definitely has something to prove if he didn’t before since the Rockets didn’t match the Mavericks three year 46 million dollar offer.
